15_craig_skeltonSix cyclists riding across Australia cycled into Streaky Bay on April 17 to draw its Youth Week to an exciting end by giving away a bicycle.

“We have had one of the biggest turnouts for our Youth Week this year,” says Ms Dale Ramsey, Youth Development Officer with Midwest Health. “We feel it is really important to have the kids involved in a big event and it’s great to end it with the cyclists from the Circle of Courage Cycle Tour coming into town.”

The Circle of Courage focuses on four areas—belonging, mastery, independence and generosity. The cyclists, led by Jonathan Duffy, director of health for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific, organiser of the tour, are cycling from Perth to Sydney to address issues of at-risk behaviour among young people in small, rural communities

The cyclists entered into town in the late afternoon to the warm welcome of a crowd of young people on bicycles and skateboards, accompanied by their parents. While addressing them in the Streaky Bay Supper Room Studio, Mr Duffy presented a free bicycle to lucky draw winner Craig Skelton.

The cyclists started their tour from the Murray Street Mall in Perth on April 5 and will finish in Sydney on May 5. They will be visiting ten towns during the South Australia leg of their tour and speak in a total of 21 towns across Australia. They will cover an average of 165 kilometres a day.
